Shoal Group sponsors award for young engineers

Shoal Group is proud to support the Permanent Way Institute (PWI) SA Chapter by sponsoring the John Dring OAM Young Engineer Award. This award celebrates and recognises the achievements or initiatives of young engineers in the field of railway engineering in relation to the permanent way of an operating railway.

Shoal has long been involved in rail related projects, including the electrification of the Gawler railway line in Adelaide, and other projects across Melbourne, Sydney and Perth,” said Shaun Wilson, CEO of Shoal Group. “Recognising excellence in young people will ensure that the industry continues to develop, and we are proud to be supporting innovation in rail and infrastructure.

Transport & Infrastructure is an area of focus for Shoal, with the application of systems engineering across requirements traceability, verification, safety assurance, system specifications and complex system modelling.

The award is named after the highly esteemed railway engineer, John Dring OAM, who lived in Adelaide and was active on the committee of the PWI. For many years he was the Chief Engineer of the MTR railway system in Hong Kong and the Young Engineer Award was instituted in his memory. Engineers under 35 and working in Transport & Infrastructure in South Australia are eligible for the award, with the winner receiving the Shoal prize of $1000.

Nominations close on 20 July, with the Annual Dinner and Awards Presentation on 3rd August 2023.
