Shoal contributes Systems Engineering expertise at Dassault Systèmes Digital Engineering Symposium 2026

Shoal Group contributed to industry discussions on Digital Engineering, Model-Based Systems Engineering and sovereign capability at the Dassault Systèmes Digital Engineering Symposium 2026, held in Melbourne and Canberra last week.

Shoal Group Pty Ltd Founder and CEO, Shaun Wilson, joined industry leaders at the Canberra symposium for the panel discussion, ‘Model-Based Engineering & Cyber Systems for Defence: Building the Next Generation of Sovereign Capabilities’. Moderated by INCOSE Asia-Oceania Sector Director Dr Quoc Do, the discussion explored the role digital engineering can play in developing and sustaining the sovereign capabilities Australia needs for the future.

“The symposium was a valuable event that generated thoughtful discussion among Defence, industry and the broader systems engineering community,” said Shaun. “I particularly enjoyed the panel discussion and the opportunity to explore how digital engineering can help Defence develop secure, resilient and sovereign capabilities for the future”.

The topic is closely connected to Shaun’s experience as both a Systems Engineer and technology entrepreneur. Throughout his career, Shaun has led the practical implementation of model-based design approaches for large, complex military systems, alongside technology initiatives spanning unmanned aerial systems, satellite communications, quantum computing and data analytics.

Earlier in the week, Stephen Cook, Senior Principal Systems Engineer at Shoal and INCOSE President-Elect, presented a keynote at the Melbourne symposium. His presentation, ‘Digital Engineering: An increasingly important enabler of Systems Engineering’, shared how digital engineering is vital for designing, building, operating, and maintaining the future generations of complex engineered systems, and was well received by attendees.

The Dassault Systèmes Digital Engineering Symposium 2026 was held in Melbourne on Tuesday, 1 September and Canberra on Thursday, 3 September. Speakers and attendees explored a broad agenda spanning sovereign capability, digital engineering, mission engineering and cyber systems. With deep expertise in Systems Engineering, Model-Based approaches, modelling, simulation and analysis, Shoal also contributed its practical experience applying digital engineering technologies, including the Dassault Systèmes CATIA solution.
