Shoal sets a new standard in Defence capability, with FastCAD winning the DTC Innovation Award

DTC Innovation Award - FastCAD 2025

Shoal Group is proud to announce that we have won the DTC Innovation Award for FastCAD, a tool for faster and more effective warship signature assessment, enabling rapid radar vulnerability analysis and decision-making on operations. Shoal was presented with the Award at the Defence Teaming Centre (DTC) Industry Dinner & Awards Ceremony in Adelaide on Friday, 5 December 2025, recognising Shoal’s commitment to pioneering innovative solutions that address critical capability gaps within the Defence sector.

FastCAD revolutionises the way the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) generates 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) models for warships. Using LiDAR and photogrammetry, FastCAD creates high-resolution CAD models faster, more efficiently, and at lower cost than ever before. This empowers naval crews to conduct real-time signature assessments of operational configurations, improving platform survivability assessments and responsiveness to tactical threats.

“We are thrilled to be recognised with the DTC Innovation Award,” said Shaun Wilson, CEO and Founder of Shoal. “This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team and our collaboration with the RAN and DSTG. Through FastCAD, we have not only enhanced Defence capabilities but have also positioned Shoal for further growth in Defence and other markets where we are active.”

As FastCAD continues to evolve, its applications extend beyond RCS analysis to areas such as operational readiness checks, damage assessments, and Asset Management. FastCAD also has potential for integration across various Defence platforms, including land and air. With ambitions to further expand Shoal’s reach into export markets and a commitment to ongoing research and development aligned to emerging Defence needs, Shoal is both proud of its achievements and excited about the future.

Each year, DTC honours the accomplishments of its members within the Defence sector. Shoal extends congratulations to all award winners on the evening:
