Shoal Group appoints new Chief Engineer
Adelaide, 28 September 2022
Shoal Group announced today that Dr Derek Rogers has been appointed as our Chief Engineer. With the continued growth of the company and the expansion of projects across defence, space, transport and infrastructure markets in both Australia and New Zealand, he will provide leadership and the focus required to continue the delivery of assurance as we expand into more and more complex domains.
The Chief Engineer operates with an intentional level of independence from the delivery functions of Shoal, providing engineering oversight of Shoal’s products and services. Derek will set, oversee and communicate the controls that govern Shoal’s engineering operations.
Derek has a distinguished career in defence and space, working for defence industry primes, start-ups, and multinational companies, and joined Shoal in November 2020 as Engineering Lead – Defence and Space. A professional engineer with significant experience in the commercial and defence sectors in Engineering Management, Systems Engineering, and Project Management, he holds numerous qualifications and has been the recipient of multiple, significant engineering awards. Derek is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and recognised as a Fellow, Charted Professional Engineer and Engineering Executive by Engineers Australia. He is also an adjunct with several universities, to the level of Professor, and known for leading teams and developing people.
Shoal Group Chief Executive Officer and Founder, Shaun Wilson, welcomed Derek into the role.
“Derek’s knowledge and experience is evident in the work he has undertaken with us in Defence and Space, and I know the broader Shoal team will benefit from his influence in the new role of Chief Engineer,” said Shaun.
Derek will work with our Head of Engineering and Engineering Leadership Team to develop and maintain Shoal’s corporate technical assurance capability and ensuring that it is appropriately applied to all Shoal engineering activities.
