A Federated Approach to Systems Engineering and Safety Assurance on Complex Rail Projects
At AusRAIL 2022, Charles Deeb, James Donovan and James Lee presented a poster titled ‘A Federated Approach to Systems Engineering and Safety Assurance on Complex Rail Projects’. Their poster explores Shoal’s systems approach to integrating Systems Engineering and Safety Assurance (SESA) and other specialty engineering processes into a modular, pre-developed, digital engineering framework for the whole-of-infrastructure design lifecycle of complex rail projects. In the poster, they provide an overview of the framework, its development and application.
Importantly, the poster presents the benefits realised from Shoal’s SESA framework across complex rail projects:
- A digital approach, minimising duplication of work throughout the project lifecycle and facilitating data exchange and management
- A tailored application, based on the services required, scaled according to the systems engineering scope on the project
- A tool agnostic framework that allows information exchange between common best practice Systems Engineering and rail industry tool
- A common language, for use across the project, supporting communication and a common understanding of project terms.
Congratulations to the team. You can view the poster here.
