Ten years on – Remembering Paul Logan, Digital Engineering Pioneer

Paul Logan, Digital Engineering pioneer

Today marks ten years since the passing of Paul Logan, a respected advisor, early advocate for Digital Engineering / Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), and a dear friend to Shoal. From 2009 until his passing in 2015, Paul played an instrumental role in guiding our early MBSE efforts. His technical insight, intellect, and generosity of spirit shaped not only the projects he touched but also the people he worked alongside. Many early Shoalers, including our CEO and Founder, Shaun Wilson, were fortunate to call him both a mentor and a friend.

Paul began his career in the Australian Army Signals Corps, where he met his wife, Margaret. In 1991, he introduced MBSE into the Jindalee Operational Radar Network and was one of the first users of the CORE systems engineering tool outside the US. From 2002 until his death, he helped shape some of Australia’s most complex Defence projects, including all those Shoal was engaged in at the time. He also served as an INCOSE Board Member, representing the Asia-Pacific, and as President of the Systems Engineering Society of Australia (SESA).

To honour Paul’s legacy, Shoal named one of our meeting rooms the Logan Room. It’s a daily reminder of Paul’s impact on our company, his passion for systems thinking, warmth and wisdom. We remember Paul not only for his professional legacy but for the lasting relationships and influence he left behind. His work continues to guide us, and the Logan Room stands as a tribute to a man who helped define who we are.
