Shoal’s contribution to the Naval Engineering and Maintenance Bulletin

Shoal is proud to announce its contribution to the latest edition (December 2016) of the Naval Engineering and Maintenance Bulletin (NEMB). Shoal Senior Systems Engineer, Ryan Cox, authored the article on page 35 entitled “The new Capability Life Cycle: Earlier understanding, better capability”. The piece describes the new Capability Life Cycle from a Collins Class Submarine engineering perspective with a focus on industry involvement. The article opens as follows:

“The new Capability Life Cycle (CLC) is upon us, with a newly-recognised Fundamental Input to Capability (FIC) element, that being Industry involvement. As such I would like to discuss this new FIC element, particularly in the context of the Collins Class Submarine (CCSM, pictured below), and encourage its earlier involvement in the CLC.”

The NEMB seeks to “create a vehicle by which those interested and participating in the naval engineering and maintenance discipline can share knowledge, information, experiences and ideas”. This latest edition also includes several other interesting topics of particular relevance to Shoal, such as the N4 Library, Materiel Seaworthiness Functional Master Set (MSwFMS) policies and an insight to the challenges we face in a continuous shipbuilding enterprise by Head Navy Engineering, RADM Michael Uzzell.

Special thanks to the Royal Australian Navy for inviting Shoal to participate in this edition of the NEMB; we look forward to continuing our support in developing Navy engineering capability.
