Researcher joins Aerospace Concepts under new DSTO Industry Placement
Dr Bateup, who holds a PhD in hypersonics, is the first researcher placed with industry under this initiative. He will join Aerospace Concepts for two years to both broaden his experience and lend his research expertise.
The industry placement initiative was recently launched by Assistant Minister for Defence, Stuart Robert MP, who said
“I congratulate Aerospace Concepts and DSTO for their commitment to this initiative which has obvious benefits for both organisations involved. DSTO benefits from the hands-on experience that scientists such as Dr Bateup gain with an industry placement and the company draws on the considerable knowledge of our scientists.”
Mark Bateup commented
“I’m really keen to learn a different aspect of engineering with Aerospace Concepts – getting a better feel for how our industry partners is a big part of will be really useful for career progression with DSTO. I’m hoping to develop a new set of skills”
Shaun Wilson, CEO of Aerospace Concepts commented that
“This is a real win-win for DSTO and our company. We have worked with DSTO over many years to solve some of the most complex technology problems in Defence; we’re delighted to host Mark on our staff for the next two years and gain access to his deep expertise in hypersonic research and flight trials management. DSTO benefits in the longer term by having research staff who are comfortable working with industry and understand how business works. As a key supplier of specialist systems engineering services to DSTO, we also benefit by having a more informed client to collaborate with. As we grow our work in the commercial sector and the US market while Mark is with us, we expect him to be a big part of that journey.”
