Celebrating what it means to be Shoal in 2024
2024 has been a big year at Shoal. As we prepare for a well-deserved Christmas break, we’ve reflected on what it means to be Shoal, as we celebrate some of our significant events and achievements of our team and company throughout the year.
Our people
- Welcomed five new team members to our shoal
- Celebrated one engagement, one marriage, and seven babies
- Were amazed (and perhaps a little exhausted) by …
- One iron man,
- A trekker of the pacific crest trail,
- Another to Everest Base Camp,
- A cyclist who rode from Canberra to Melbourne, and
- A competitor in the biennial National Disaster Rescue Challenge
- Congratulated two graduations, a PhD and a diploma
- Promoted ten of our engineers and analysts.
Our credentials
- Renewed an agreement with Engineers Australia for access to its Engineering Workforce Credentialling (EWC) Program. Our EWC program has now supported more than 30 of our engineers attain Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status
- Was a finalist in the Defence Teaming Centre Skilling Award
- Obtained JOSCAR-AU registration
- Our management team completed a two-day Standard Mental Health First Aid course.
Our markets
- Embraced new clients, projects, geographies, and opportunities across our Defence | Space | Transport | Infrastructure markets including major efforts in energy decarbonisation in Asian industry and in mining
- Illustrated how our market sector approach has made us adaptable and resilient in the ebb and flow of industry changes
- Attended more than 15 events across Australia and internationally to meet and support our clients and develop new business
- Joined Team TECSA, launched by QinetiQ at Land Forces 2024, to support the Government’s National Defence Strategy and Defence Industry Development Strategy
- Celebrated opening of Sydney Metro City and Southwest, to which Shoal was one of the many contributors to the project in Systems Engineering and Safety Assurance (SESA) efforts
- Completed technical assessment for issuance of the first Australian Launch Permit (ALP) for an orbital space launch from Australia
- Sponsored the Hunter New Energy Program, the Systems Engineering Test and Evaluation Conference and the DTC Defence Industry Dinner and Awards.
Our thought leadership
- Presented eleven papers at six conferences, nationally and internationally, and won Best Paper at SETE 2024
- Facilitated a session at the Submarine Institute of Australia 12th Biennial Conference
- Spoke at the DTC Defence Leaders Breakfast.
Our new endeavours
- Launched ‘energy’ as a new area of specialisation in our infrastructure market, providing digital engineering to model and analyse complex energy decarbonisation projects
- Formed a joint venture with Resource Unicorns Capital to establish Solarh2e, a company dedicated to the decarbonisation and electrification of heavy haulage in mining and elsewhere
- Opened a new Canberra office to better support our local clients and staff.
Our community
- Partnered with Greenfleet to offset carbon emissions
- Supported the Police Science Journal, Australian Firefighter, Bikes For Refugees and OPK9
- Held the inaugural Travel to Work Cup to reduce carbon emissions and raise awareness on our commute.
What a year!
While some of us will continue to work during the holiday period, many of us will be spending time with family and friends, and taking the opportunity to pause and recharge, ready to embrace 2025!
