Shoal Group announced as finalist in Defence Teaming Centre Skilling Award

Shoal Group has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Defence Teaming Centre’s Skilling Award. The Award recognises companies who have developed an internal training program that specifically addresses skills shortages and benefits the Defence sector.

Shoal has an Experiential Framework that supports the consistency and clarity of career progression for Engineers and Analysts. The framework addresses professional and individual development behaviours and technical and leadership competencies, in line with their profession, industry project needs and defence strategy.

Within this framework lies a range of programs, including Shoal’s award-winning early careers programs, ShoalIntern and ShoalGrad. Shoal also offers bespoke training programs that are designed and developed specific to the needs of the company and clients and extend to offer benefits in terms of staff engagement and retention.

There have been two significant developments to increase the knowledge and skillset of our workforce,” says Matthew Wylie, Head of Engineering. “Our Engineering Workforce Credentialling Program, with Engineers Australia, and a bespoke training program of courses for our Defence engineers in Model-Based Systems Engineering, called MBSE using SysML.”

In signing an agreement with Engineers Australia for access to its Engineering Workforce Credentialling (EWC) Program, Shoal has supported more than 30 engineers to attain Chartered status since July 2023. This is a significant portion of Shoal’s workforce.

The completion of the MBSE using SysML training program reinforces Shoal’s leading digital engineering capabilities in mission engineering and analysis, and product systems engineering, supporting the delivery of defence capability and realisation of Defence’s digital engineering strategy.

In advising Shoal of the finalist shortlisting, Defence Teaming Centre said, “Your commitment to excellence has significantly contributed to the advancement of Australia’s defence industry, and we look forward to sharing this with you later in the year.

The award winners will be announced at the annual DTC Defence Industry Dinner & Awards Ceremony in Adelaide on Wednesday, 4 December 2024.
