Employing a Model Based Conceptual Design Approach to Design for Resilience

Incose

Resilience is not a new concept but from the devastating bushfires to the globally catastrophic pandemic 2020 saw it elevated to new levels.

In this paper, which was presented at INCOSE 2021 July 21 2021, David Flanigan of The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and Shoal’s Kevin Robinson explore how a Model Based Conceptual Design (MNCD) can be used to improve resilience within an existing MBCD schema.

If used at the early concept stage the authors show how MBCD can support resilient design practices and could provide insight for decision makers to consider the level of resilience that is desired.
