Shoal partners with Greenfleet to offset carbon emissions
Shoal Group has taken another step in our commitment to environmental sustainability by offsetting 126 tonnes of carbon with Greenfleet. The purchase will be realised in the planting of protected, biodiverse, native forests in Australia and New Zealand. These forests are legally protected for 100 years and play a crucial role in carbon sequestration, using CSIRO’s Full Carbon Accounting Model to measure their impact.
At Shoal, we calculate our carbon emissions at the end of each financial year, drawing from data across our operations. Tools like Uber for Business and Corporate Traveller help us track emissions from our transport, while we also account for office power use and staff commuting habits. The result for the period of review was 126.10 tonnes of carbon emissions, now offset through this partnership with Greenfleet.
The reforestation effort not only removes carbon from the atmosphere but also restores habitats for native wildlife, including endangered species, while improving soil and water quality. It’s a tangible way for us to give back to the environment, reinforcing our broader commitment to environmental responsibility.
With Shoal’s purpose being ‘to apply systems thinking to bring about positive change’, this is just one of the initiatives at Shoal that sees our values of being self-aware, creative, bold, sociable and resilient put into action. Being a responsible corporate citizen and supporting to build a sustainable future is important to Shoal, as a company, and to Shoalers in our team.
“Through our partnership with Greenfleet, we are proud to support reforestation efforts and make a positive difference for both the planet and our communities,” says Shaun Wilson, Shoal CEO and Founder.
About Greenfleet
Greenfleet is a leading not-for-profit environmental organisation protecting our climate by restoring our forests. Greenfleet plants native biodiverse forests to capture carbon emissions and help fight the impacts of climate change. Since 1997, Greenfleet has planted over 10.8 million trees across 550+ forests in Australia and New Zealand. As they grow, these forests absorb carbon, improve soil and water quality, and restore habitat for native wildlife, including many endangered species.
