Shoal and QxBranch at the 2016 ‘Master of Mallala’ SA State Championship
The 2016 ‘Master of Mallala’ SA State Championship Series, the most recent challenge for the combined Thomson Geer / Shoal / QxBranch racing team, is well underway with the final two rounds scheduled for later this year. Team driver Michael O’Donnell is a strong contender for the championship, based on his results thus far in the series and through recent experiences gained through competing in the Australian GT Championship last year. O’Donnell took round 1 of the Master of Mallala championship in February with a clean sweep of all four races. Round 2 was just held over two days in late May, with the round consisting of five races. Technical problems with coolant under pressurisation called for some last minute tuning but ensured fast starts, good pace and first place in both races on day 1. Race 3 started with a dust storm causing some serious track visual impairments, race 4 was run in the rain and the final race was run in clear and dry conditions. Despite the Melbourne-inspired weather, the team placed first in all races, attracting welcomed attention from commentators and spectators alike. O’Donnell’s recent success has seen him heavily featured in the Porsche Club of South Australia’s Jan – Mar 16 Porsche Report magazine.
With such fantastic performances thus far in the championship, the team is clearly ahead in the standings, and with the final two rounds being held in late August and November respectively, Shoal looks forward to reporting championship success in the months to come.
