Shoal welcomes two interns for our 2021 program

After an extensive application assessment process, coupled with panel interviews, Shoal is delighted to introduce two interns who will be joining us for Shoal’s 2021 Internship Program; Matthew King and Rhys Wilson. To apply for our Internship, Matthew and Rhys submitted their CV’s along with a 60 second video to answer the question:
“Can you relocate the population of Perth to Darwin on one tonne of carbon emissions?”
The team took a very creative approach in framing the systems thinking conversation around a game of chess. Through this, they clearly stated their assumptions and constraints, defining the problem. This enabled a logical progression into potential solutions and the feasibility of each. We also appreciated a little easter egg in the video – see if you can spot it. Matthew and Rhys are penultimate year students at the University of Adelaide. Matthew has completed a Diploma in Languages (German) and is currently studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) and Bachelor of Computer & Mathematical Science (Maths Major). He is a prize winner of the Biomimicry Institute Global Design Challenge 2020. Rhys is studying Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical and Sustainable Energy. This year, both Matthew and Rhys were Resolution Systems’ Prize Winners in the Future Industries Hackathon.
“We’re very excited to have them on board, working within our Blue Water program on an innovative research and development project in the energy sector,” says Nikita Sardesai, Shoal Intern and Graduate Coach.
The Shoal Internship Program 2021 offers a 12 week, paid internship for two undergraduate students to join our team in Adelaide. Matthew and Rhys will work closely with a technical supervisor to explore solutions and be mentored and supported by our team across the business, from senior systems engineers to our recent graduates. Our program also supports interns in gaining valuable exposure to a variety of business areas, from business development to internal quality management, and to our social activities – they’ll be responsible for this years’ Mario Kart Tournament.
Matthew and Rhys will commence with Shoal on 16 November through to February 2021.
