Shoal celebrates 25 years of shaping the world in 2026
Shoal Group is celebrating our silver anniversary in 2026, marking a quarter of a century of applying systems thinking to some of the most complex challenges. This milestone will be recognised through a yearlong program of activities under the theme 25 years of shaping the world.
Founded on 2 May 2001 as Aerospace Concepts Pty Ltd, Shoal began by providing concept design support across aerospace, information technology and telecommunications. As the complexity and scale of the challenges evolved, so too did Shoal. We changed our name and expanded into new markets, disciplines and ways of working as systems became larger, more interconnected and higher risk.
Today, Shoal is headquartered in Adelaide, with projects delivered across Australia, New Zealand and internationally. Shoal brings together systems thinkers, engineers and analysts to help clients define, analyse, decide, optimise and deliver technology intensive systems. Across Defence, Space, Transport, Energy and Infrastructure, Shoal’s people and ideas have shaped how complex problems are understood and addressed.
The 25-year milestone will be marked through a series of stories, reflections and events throughout 2026, celebrating the people and ideas that have shaped Shoal and the trusted outcomes delivered through systems engineering, modelling, simulation and analysis. From early projects and technical breakthroughs to enduring partnerships and leadership, the program will reflect on how Shoal’s thinking has helped organisations make better decisions, manage risk and deliver capability in complex environments. These organisation have ranged from the Department of Defence and Transport for NSW to the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
Shoal CEO and Founder, Shaun Wilson, said the anniversary was an opportunity to recognise both the company’s history and its future.
“Shoal’s story has always been shaped by people and ideas; asking better questions, seeing the whole system and working collaboratively with stakeholders to solve complex problems,” said Shaun. “This milestone is an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come, and to look ahead to the many challenges where systems thinking can continue to make a positive difference.”
Guided by a purpose – to apply systems thinking to bring about positive change – Shoal continues to evolve alongside the challenges faced in our world today.
The silver anniversary program will celebrate achievements and strengthen relationships across Shoal’s clients, partners, alumni and team, while reflecting on the role Shoal has played in shaping complex capability through systems thinking, digital engineering and modelling, simulation and analysis.
